The 2025 ๐‘๐š๐ซ๐ž ๐„๐š๐ซ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฆ๐š๐ง๐ž๐ง๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ ๐ง๐ž๐ญ (๐‘๐„๐๐Œ) crisis exposed critical vulnerabilities in the EU supply chains, with pronounced impacts onย the ๐„๐• sector.ย With robotics and automotive industries sharing supply chain dependencies, it was crucial to understand how exposed the robotics industry was. This led me to dig deeper and start working on a whitepaper titled "๐˜”๐˜ข๐˜จ๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ต๐˜ด, ๐˜”๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ด ๐˜ข๐˜ฏ๐˜ฅ ๐˜™๐˜ฐ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฐ๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ค๐˜ด: ๐˜›๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ ๐˜‰๐˜ถ๐˜ด๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฆ๐˜ด๐˜ด ๐˜Š๐˜ข๐˜ด๐˜ฆ",ย analysing supply chain risks (especially NdFeB/Dy) in actuators. Reports from the European Raw Materials Alliance (ERMA) [1] and the ๐‚๐จ๐ฎ๐ง๐œ๐ข๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐“๐ž๐œ๐ก๐ง๐จ๐ฅ๐จ๐ ๐ข๐œ๐š๐ฅ ๐’๐จ๐ฏ๐ž๐ซ๐ž๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ญ๐ฒ (DLR Projekttrรคger, ๐๐Œ๐…๐“๐‘) [2] also underscored these challenges. News coverage and expert opinions in late 2025 and early 2026 affirmed the growing "๐‘๐„๐๐Œ" problem for robotic actuators [3,4,5,6]. Meanwhile, EU academic institutions initiated research into non-magnetic motors, such as NAFTech by PEM RWTH Aachen University, Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion (IEW), University of Stuttgart and Institute FAPS [7]. This direction emerged from extensive discussions with Abhishek Manandhar (a colleague from the Technical University of Munich) and guidance from Christian Ott (my doctoral supervisor from Technische Universitรคt Wien). This became the starting point for Kognexus.
