Australia's university sector has a growing compliance problem, and it just got bigger. Macquarie University is facing Fair Work Commission claims that two academics were illegally targeted for redundancy due to their union activities. Meanwhile, Charles Darwin University has entered an Enforceable Undertaking after underpaying more than 800 casual staff over $4 million. The National Tertiary Education Union (NTEU) says underpayments across the sector have now surpassed $284 million, with provisions for a further $168 million on top of that.
