⭐️ Celebrating 10 Years of NextGen HR ⭐️ Back in 2015, I had this crazy idea that I could do HR and recruitment for small business better than the big players. I’ve always had an affinity for small business, probably because I come from a family of small business owners myself. I knew one day I’d end up running my own thing too. But first, I had to cut my teeth working for others (big and small) to figure out how not to do it. The truth is, I didn’t have some 20-page business plan or fancy pitch deck. No investors. No safety net. Just a strong will, a bit of conviction, and the uncomfortable reality of three small kids at home and having just been made redundant. After a few (slightly panicked) chats with the most supportive wife on the planet, we agreed: it was now or never. The deal was, if it didn’t work in 6 months, I’d go get a “real job.” So… X Miller Consulting was born overnight. Yes, very creative naming on my part. Thankfully, in 2019 my wife stepped in again with a better idea and NextGen HR was rebranded into existence. Until 2020, it was just me. I thought this would be a “lifestyle business.” 😂 But then, through a great mate in business, Nick, I hired my first employee out of the Philippines. That was the turning point. Since the end of 2020, we’ve grown from just me to a team of 8 incredible people (with a 9th next week), now supporting well over 780 employees across our clients every day. Fast forward to 2025, our team’s hard work was recognised nationally when we won the Breakthrough Culture Award, proof that our purpose of positively impacting people’s lives at work isn’t just words on a wall. It’s how we operate. We have just launched a #MHFA mental health first aid training service and now have team members in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Manila and Kuala Lumpur! None of this would have happened without my family, my team Kate B., Laura Porcaro, Sari Howard, Mikee Joyce Gevero, Carolyn Patsis, Liela D'Rose and Tania, and the mentors, friends, and supporters who’ve had my back along the way: Bradley Kaine, Scott Mathrick, Dan Williams, Nick Vassiliades, Carlos Da Conceicao, Caleb Bright, Mungo Bright, Steve Dawson, Matthew Bristow, Chris Grasso, Ashley Darwen, Campbell Jones & Stuart Flanigan… and so many others who know the impact they’ve had on me and on NextGen HR. I was blown away today when Laura shared a video with me (I'll post that soon!), a massive thank you to those who sent beautiful messages! I couldn’t be more grateful, proud, and optimistic for the future. Ten years down, here’s to the next ten! NextGen HR #positiveimpact
