As the floating offshore wind industry prepares to scale up to full commercialisation, wide-ranging expertise will be crucial in planning how to manoeuvre and deploy the huge turbines safely and resiliently. Floating turbines have the potential to make a significant contribution to net zero, with stronger and more consistent winds in deeper waters promising higher outputs. However, the harshness of the environment makes it challenging to transport and deploy turbines, especially as they increase in size and number. Solutions such as physical testing, computer modelling and navigation simulation can help reduce risk and costs, and increase resilience and safety. In our new film, our people talk about the challenges of scaling up floating wind, and the ways in which engineers can help tackle these.
