I just interviewed another fake candidate 😡. I’ve started asking simple questions to validate candidates. Weather is an easy one, although I suspect candidates prepare for small talk and weather is the easiest one. This candidate said he was in Vancouver, so I asked about the weather. He said 40 degrees. Today it’s around 8°C / 47°F. Close enough, but I don’t know anyone in Canada, especially someone claiming to be a citizen, who would answer in Fahrenheit. It was pretty clear he’s used to interviewing with American companies. The bigger red flag: the person on the video call looked nothing like the LinkedIn photo. I took screenshots, as the kids say, "I kept receipts".
