Activity shifted up a gear on the containership charter market last week as Liners made a grab for ships with increasingly forward laycans. Wednesday’s HRCI assessment saw a more emphatic move up with the index rising by 1.3% to reach 2,719 points. Of the 20 sizes assessed, nine were rated higher with only two seeing a slight fall. The focal point continues to be on securing capacity for the future, albeit due to the dearth of early ships, but also in recognition of the tight balance for these sizes in the coming years. Several MLOs have been on the hunt, keen to pick up anything particularly over 2,000 teu with dates spread well into 2027. Howe Robinson publishes regular updates on containership charter markets.
