Today 20th July 1982, 44 years ago at 10:43. Lt Daly, SCpl Bright, LCpl Young, Tpr Tipper and horses Maj Cedric, Maj Epaulette, Maj Falcon, Maj Rochester, Maj Waterford, Maj Yeastvite and Maj Zara of The Blues and Royals, were brutally murdered at Hyde Park in London from a Car Bomb. Just over two hours later, at 12:55 pm, a bomb exploded underneath a bandstand in Regent's Park, also in London, where 30 military bandsmen of the Royal Green Jackets were performing to a crowd of 120 people. Six of the bandsmen were killed at the scene and another died of his injuries on August 1. The rest of the band members, as well as eight civilians, were also injured. Sgt Maj Graham Barker, Sgt Robert Livingstone, Cpl John McKnight, George Mesure, Keith Powell, Laurence Smith and John Heritage were all members of the Royal Green Jackets. They were performing music from the musical Oliver! at the bandstand before a crowd of 120 people when the bomb exploded. John Heritage died in hospital on 1 August. At least 51 people were injured between the two bombings. Earlier on this year.
