Our ancestor King Ngubengcuka Aa! Ndaba!, also known as Vusani, ruled the Thembu Nation from 1790 to 1830 and united the Thembu’s under one nation. He was said to have merged with fugitives from other clans and embraced diversity in its fullest form when the status quo at the time was to fully defend your own tribe against other groups. He took this diversity and channeled it into an unstoppable force – the formation of the Thembu Nation. He believed that the strength and the survival of his nation lied in its unity – a tactic that Madiba his descendant, used to great effect when he became the first democratically elected President of South Africa.
