With 3.9 million active digital credentials live in California, mobile ID adoption is no longer a future trend. Our eID Regional Manager of the Americas, Diego Puentes, recently attended the California mDL Showcase in Sacramento to see firsthand how the enterprise ecosystem is scaling on the ground. Hosted by the CA DMV and the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office, the showcase highlighted a significant investment in wallet adoption and a strong push for interoperability. California has hit about 7.2% conversion rate, with over 2 million ISO-compliant unique mDLs issued against 27.8 million licensed drivers. While most identity initiatives are still focusing on standards and technology, California is driving activation through value added uses cases. Here are a few major highlights from Diego following the live enterprise applications on display:  • Financial Services and AI: Seamless online bank account opening and mDL-backed re-KYC used as a human authorisation gate for sensitive AI-agent actions.  • Commerce and the Gig Economy: Driver identity verification for delivery platforms, instant phone activation to stop account takeovers, and cross-border mDL verification for car rentals between California and Taiwan.  • Education and Workforce: A big congratulations to the California Community Colleges' for sharing their experience implementing mobile driver’s license (mDL) technology into their application systems, and for Career Passport initiative, which may play a key role in bringing value to the CA Wallet credentials ecosystem. The DMV showed that none of this works without the broader ecosystem. Citizens only get the full value of their wallets when issuers, verifiers, and relying parties all show up together. With over 7% of the market already active, this ecosystem is ready to lead the next wave of digital identity adoption. We are proud to currently be participating in the testing program for the CA DMV WALLET to support this transition, focused on building secure infrastructure that keeps the user experience clean.
