Have you heard the story of “Bio-espresso” concrete? ☕➡️🏗️ In a recent episode of edie’s Sustainability Uncovered podcast, Jonathan Ly, Director - Structures at CWG (Canary Wharf Group), discussed a challenge facing the construction industry today: why many sustainable ideas never actually make it to the job site. His solution? Engage the supply chain early. By collaborating with Holcim on the installation of the “Whale on The Wharf” art sculpture at the earliest stages, Canary Wharf Group presented us with a unique challenge: Turn spent coffee grounds collected from their estate into biochar concrete to lower the embodied emissions and drive circularity. The result was “Bio-espresso”.
