Dear Dr. Konrad Körner and Dr. Thomas Pauls, Thank you so much for your valuable contribution to our expert exchange on the #European #Health #Data #Space in our Siemens capital representation in Berlin. Thanks also for sharing this clear example of a patient with a rare disease after multiple therapies have failed. By matching anonymized case data with a European database, it will be possible to discover a similar case that was successfully treated elsewhere — and suddenly, a new therapy path becomes possible. 💪This is the power of health data. It can save lives. At our political roundtable “Think global, act local”, we discussed one of the key questions for the future:
How can Germany and Europe use health data in a secure, sovereign, and meaningful way? Three takeaways stood out: 1️⃣ Legal certainty first Clear rules are essential — rules that protect privacy without blocking innovation. EHDS‑aligned frameworks must be precise, practical, and thoughtfully designed. 2️⃣ Coherence, not fragmentation A sovereign, interoperable health data ecosystem requires harmonized regulations. The European Health Data Space is a shared European task — not a national one. 3️⃣ Real value for research and care Structured health data holds enormous potential. But we unlock it only if we create a trustworthy framework that combines safety with innovation. The path is complex — but the potential for better care across Europe is immense.
