Professor Karl Winnacker (* 21. September 1903 in Barmen, + 5. Juni 1989 in Königstein) was appointed the first chairman of the board of Farbwerke Hoechst AG, vorm. Meister, Lucius & Brüning (1952 to 1969). Initially, each of the 12 board members received a monthly salary of DM 6'000. All investments exceeding DM 5’000 had to be still approved by the Allied Control Authority. Farbwerke Hoechst AG was released from Allied control only on 27 March 1953. In the same year, American Hoechst Corporation was established in Somerville (New Jersey) as the first foreign subsidiary of Farbwerke Hoechst AG.
