The Chancellor Rt Hon Rachel Reeves today nominated Professor Jonathan Haskel CBE as her preferred candidate for Chair of the Office for Budget Responsibility.    Professor Haskel brings exceptional depth of expertise to the role. A Professor of Economics at Imperial College London specialising in productivity and growth, he has an outstanding track record of independent, rigorous analysis across academia, public policy and oversight, including six years as an External Member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee.    The OBR plays a vital role in maintaining the transparency and integrity of the UK's public finances, producing official economic and fiscal forecasts, assessing the Government's performance against its fiscal rules, and reporting on risks to the public finances. Strong, independent leadership at the OBR is central to the credibility of our fiscal framework.    The appointment is subject to pre-appointment scrutiny by the Treasury Select Committee. In the interim, Budget Responsibility Committee members Professor David Miles and Tom Josephs continue to lead the organisation.
