Why do we call them “HIABs”? In our world, "HIAB" is more than a brand name—it’s the universal shorthand for the loader crane. It’s a rare phenomenon when a single company defines an entire category. For us, that journey started in 1944 when a ski manufacturer named Eric Sundin decided that truck engines should do the heavy lifting. By inventing the world's first hydraulic loader crane, he didn't just start a company; he changed the language of logistics. Today, the term is used on sites everywhere, often regardless of the logo on the crane. We take that as the ultimate compliment. When people say "send a HIAB," they are asking for the versatility, precision, and efficiency that we pioneered over 80 years ago. While we’ve seen plenty of followers since the 1940s, we believe there’s an unmatched advantage in working with the original standard. We aren't just part of the industry, we’re the name that defined it. #BuiltToPerform
