Seating up to 42,000 spectators, the Stade de Bordeaux embraces the playing field, its geometry affording optimal visibility. The steep stands create a close connection to the pitch and concentrate the roar of the crowd. Following the inaugural match between home team Girondins de Bordeaux against Montpellier, then-Bordeaux forward Henri Saivet remarked: “We needed to have this proximity with the supporters. We can feel their strength.” Beyond hosting FCBG matches, the stadium has been reconfigured for major concerts and has welcomed some of football and rugby’s biggest events. It served as a venue for UEFA EURO 2016, hosting six matches including a semi-final, and later hosted matches during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
