Dr Lisa Su is the President & CEO of AMD, an American multinational semiconductor company that develops computer processors and other related technologies for both business and the consumer markets. At a young age, Lisa aspired to be an engineer, as she had great curiosity over how things worked. When she was 10, she began taking apart and fixing her brother's remote control cars. Eventually, pursuing her dream and studied electrical engineering. Lisa attended MIT and sparked her interest in semiconductors and became one of the first researchers to look into silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology, a component used either to boost the performance of microchips or to reduce their power requirements. Making the switch from her first job in Texas, Lisa joined IBM as a research staff member and made her way to vice president of the semiconductor research and development center. In 2012, Lisa joined AMD as the senior vice president, overseeing the company's global units. Two years later she was then appointed the president and CEO of the company, making her the first woman to run a Fortune 500 semiconductor company. In 2020, Dr Lisa was named and ranked #2 by Fortune magazine on its Business Person of the Year list and was appointed to serve on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology, tasked with making science, technology and innovation policy recommendations to the White House and President Biden.
