Hoje completo 1 ano de escritório. Na realidade, sempre tenho dificuldade em responder quanto tempo de escritório próprio exatamente eu tenho. Não só a tomada de decisão para deixar o escritório de excelência em que trabalhava não veio num dia específico de epifania - mas foi resultado de um longo processo de reflexão e planejamento -, como o próprio início do novo negócio torna difícil fixar uma data. O começo é muito menos "certeiro" do que uma data precisa pode sugerir. Os primeiros trabalhos recebidos e casos prospectados, que não chegam no dia seguinte. O tempo da burocracia para oficializar a saída da sociedade anterior e registrar a sua empresa perante os órgãos responsáveis. O dia de anúncio "oficial" sobre a abertura do seu escritório. São marcos que não ocorrem simultaneamente e às vezes não na velocidade que desejamos. Mas, olhando para trás, sou muito feliz por essa minha escolha e, apesar de a data de hoje ser apenas a data do 1º aniversário contado a partir da abertura do CNPJ, a elegi simbolicamente para celebrar outras tantas pequenas vitórias durante essa caminhada: primeiro caso; site no ar; registro na OAB; primeira vitória; primeira premiação; 100ª nota fiscal; primeira contratação; aluguel de local físico; e muitas coisas que parecem triviais quando se está numa instituição já consolidada. Que venham mais muitos anos e muitos pequenos (e grandes) marcos. __________________ Today marks one year since I started my own law firm. ​In reality, I always find it difficult to answer exactly how long I’ve been running my own firm. Not only did the decision to leave the top-tier firm where I worked not happen during a single day of epiphany - it was the result of a long process of reflection and planning -, but the very beginning of a new business makes it hard to pinpoint an exact date. ​The start is much less "definitive" than a precise date might suggest. There are the first cases received and clients prospected, which don't just arrive the next day. There is the bureaucratic time it takes to officially exit your previous partnership and register your company before the proper authorities. And then there is the day of the "official" announcement of the opening of your firm. ​These are milestones that don't happen simultaneously, and sometimes not as fast as we would like. Looking back, however, I am incredibly happy with my choice. Even though today is simply the 1st anniversary counted from the official registration for tax purposes in Brazil, I chose it symbolically to celebrate so many other small victories along this journey: my first case; launching the website; our official registration under the Bar association; our first victory; our first award; issuing our 100th invoice; our first hire; renting a physical office space; and so many things that seem trivial when you are at an already established institution. ​Here's to many more years and many more small (and big) milestones ahead.
