Tomorrow, it will be the 20 year anniversary of master designer Yves Saint Laurent’s last show which happened on January 22nd 2002 at le centre Pompidou in Paris. Probably the most important fashion show of all time, the 40 year retrospective was under the creative direction of @thierrydreyfus and masterly produced by @eyesighgroup - I was honored to be responsible for the music. For this show, which last over 90 minutes, with 384 Haute Couture looks, 120 models, we went for the best of every type of music with selections from the Velvet Underground, Roxy music, Sakamoto, Maria Callas, Pierre Henry, Verdi, Youssou N’Dour, Gershwin, Stravinsky, The Beatles, Albeniz, Bizet, Grace Jones, Leon Parker, Rimsky Korsakov, Saint Saens, Puccini etc… The audience included everyone from kings to all the designers he inspired. It would be the last time we would see so much of his work all together at the same time. We finished with a surprise - We had Catherine Deneuve and Laetitia Casta sing “Ma Plus Belle Histoire d’Amour C’est Vous” a Classic song by French singer Barbara. This was only known by 4 people, the two Ladies, Thierry Dreyfus and I. Thinking about it, it is quite special to be in a rehearsal studio with the most professional and delightful Catherine Deneuve, me on the piano and an accordeon player. Obviously we don’t have any photos as we didn’t think about that at that time (we still don’t !!!). She sounded surprisingly like Barbara. These were special moments I could talk about for hours, especially the music meetings with Thierry, Pierre Bergé and Laurent Chaput, the person responsible for all audio video archives at YSL. Beautiful memories !! Very grateful to Thierry, Messieurs Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé for the unique adventure.
