🚢 Energy efficiency and green fuels keep getting discussed separately. In practice, they’re closely connected. At London Climate Action Week, we explored this with State of Green Denmark, BloombergNEF and international stakeholders from the maritime sector. While these topics are often treated separately, many of the barriers - and opportunities - are shared across the value chain. Efficiency reduces fuel demand immediately. It also: ✅ reduces compliance exposure; ✅ improves operational flexibility; and ✅ makes future fuel pathways more affordable. Green fuels remain essential for full decarbonisation. But they become easier to scale when vessels need less energy. At Hempel A/S, we see energy efficiency as one of the most immediate levers available today. Better hull performance can reduce fuel consumption and support more efficient operations across any fuel pathway.
