New Funding to Advance Research into Causes and Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes 👏     Dr. Teresa Rodriguez Calvo, #HelmholtzMunich, has received two prestigious grants from Breakthrough T1D, the leading global type 1 diabetes (#T1D) research and advocacy organization to uncover disease mechanisms and enabling more personalized therapeutic approaches. 💡 At the Institute of Diabetes Research, two complementary projects will investigate how immune mechanisms, molecular pathways, and inter-organ communication contribute to disease development. 💠 Using a multi-omics and spatially resolved approach, the team aims to identify disease-relevant signatures in the pancreas and duodenum, with a focus on differences between childhood- and adult-onset T1D. The studies also explore the gut–pancreas axis as a potential key factor in autoimmune processes. 💠 A second project focuses on beta-cell biology, particularly the role of granins in insulin production. The researchers will examine how granins differ in pancreases without T1D, those that are autoantibody positive, and those that have been clinically diagnosed with T1D, how beta and alpha cells respond under cellular stress, and whether these changes can be detected in the blood as early biomarkers.   Together, the projects aim to support earlier diagnosis and more personalized therapeutic strategies for type 1 diabetes. 👉 Learn more in our news: https://lnkd.in/diYSXkYy    #Type1Diabetes #DiabetesResearch #BreakthroughT1D
