Our new publication in Frontiers in Medicine I am pleased to share that our retrospective cohort study on therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) of daptomycin in critically ill patients has now been published. This work was originally conducted as part of my MSc dissertation in Critical Care at the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, The University of Edinburgh and completed in collaboration with the team at the Institute of Intensive Care Medicine, University Hospital Zurich Universitätsspital Zürich. Key findings: • Subtherapeutic daptomycin concentrations are common in ICU patients • TDM leads to more frequent dose adjustments • However, dose escalation does not consistently result in higher trough levels or improved clinical outcomes The study underscores the substantial pharmacokinetic variability observed in critical illness and highlights the ongoing challenge of optimising antimicrobial therapy — particularly in patients receiving extracorporeal organ support. Grateful for the excellent collaboration and mentorship throughout this project. Daniel Hofmänner, Sascha David, Reto Schupbach.
