🎯SEEWQCI at the SBIQCI kick-off in Sofia, Bulgaria. SEEWQCI participated in the #SBIQCI kick-off meeting on 19/3/2026, a cross-border initiative connecting the national Quantum Communication Infrastructures of Bulgaria and Romania. SEEWQCI’s participation in the SBIQCI kick-off meeting in Sofia is a major step toward a pan-European quantum-secure network. By aligning strategies and infrastructure milestones, EuroQCI is accelerating the deployment of a resilient, Balkan quantum terrestrial corridor linking Athens, Sofia, and Bucharest. 🎯 Key Infrastructure Highlights of the 2 projects: #SEEWQCI is advancing a 1,100 km Greece–Bulgaria terrestrial QKD corridor, interconnecting the HellasQCI and BGQCI national infrastructures. #SEEWQCI foresees 29 large-scale demonstrations, including 9 involving Bulgaria, covering both terrestrial and hybrid scenarios. #SBIQCI is establishing the terrestrial backbone network between Bulgaria and Romania, further strengthening the regional quantum communication corridor. Together, the #EuroQCI CEF projects are strengthening cross-border interoperability and reinforcing Europe’s digital sovereignty. During the meeting, GRNET - Greek Research & Technology Network and #SEEWQCI representatives shared key insights: ⚛️Dr. Ilias Papastamtiou, Senior Project Manager GRNET, HellasQCI and SEEWQCI Projects Coordinator, delivered welcoming remarks and presented the project's strategic vision for a terrestrial Balkan quantum corridor, connecting Athens, Sofia, and Bucharest, linking South-Eastern Europe with Central and Western Europe. Dr. Papastamatiou conveyed the strong support of the Greek Government, noting that Prof. Konstantinos Karantzalos, Secretary General of Telecommunications and Posts of the Hellenic Ministry of Digital Governance and Artificial Intelligence, expressed his full support for the development of the QKD corridor and its strategic benefits for both the region & Europe. He also underlined the key role of HellasQCI, #BGQCI, & Romanian National Quantum Communication Infrastructure, the National Quantum Communication Infrastructures, as foundational building blocks enabling cross-border interconnections. ⚛️Dr. Alexis Aivaliotis, and Ms Nana Anastasopoulou, GRNET presented the objectives and scope of work of the #SEEWQCI project, as well as the work performed in the #HellasQCI project.
