Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Customers, As some of you may be aware, HeliService USA has been the subject of competitor-driven DOT proceedings questioning whether we qualify as a "U.S. citizen" — a question anyone familiar with our overwhelmingly American staff, management, and ownership might struggle to take seriously. The premise was far-fetched. The effort behind it was sophisticated, well-resourced, and sustained. Across the filings, we were branded an "illegal foreign owned enterprise," accused of "lawbreaking," cast as "bad actors," and told that letting us operate would invite "future lawlessness" into the U.S. market. The DOT issued its final decision on the matter this week: "The Department concludes, as of the date of this Order, that HeliService USA, LLC is a citizen of the United States within the meaning of 49 U.S.C. § 40102(a)(15) and 14 CFR 298.2." While the facts have always been on our side and the outcome was inevitable to us, we are happy this distraction has passed.
