The first flame of the new rotary kiln has been lit 🔥 A significant step for decarbonisation: we mark an important milestone in the commissioning of the modernised cement line at Heidelberg Materials France's Airvault plant. On day 1,289 after the laying of the first stone, we have produced the first clinker and the site moves into the final commissioning phase. We have used 18,000 tonnes of steel and 38,000 m³ of concrete to build one of Europe’s most advanced cement plants in terms of industrial performance and environmental standards. Airvault is designed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by raising the share of alternative fuels to around 90% while maintaining our core mission of producing an essential material for infrastructure. We thank all colleagues, partners, clients and public authorities whose commitment is making this transformation possible. The site is now preparing for the next step with the planned GoCO₂ carbon capture project!
