Vale Olivia de Havilland here with Hattie McDaniel (died 1952) who won an Oscar for her role, from one of my favourite movies Gone With The Wind. In 1936, David O. Selznick(died 1965) paid author Margaret Mitchell(died 1949) $50,000 for the movie rights to her novel "Gone With the Wind". Later, after Gone with the Wind (1939) became a blockbuster film, he realized he had underpaid Mitchell and gave her an additional $50,000. It was the only novel she ever wrote. Olivia played Melanie Hamilton - the cousin. Scarlett played by Vivien Leigh (died 1967) was in love with her beau, Ashley, played by Leslie Howard (died 1943) and of course there was Rhett Butler, played by Clark Gable (died 1960) . Olivia outlived her Gone With the Wind cast mates by over 50 years
