How can England have GPs struggling to find work while many patients struggle to get an appointment? As part of the HealthIntelAct fellowship, Benoît Corriveau's DPhil (PhD) research explores GP retention and workforce sustainability using routinely collected data. Since 2022, advertised GP jobs in England have fallen by about 45%, while GP turnover has increased over the past decade, most sharply in deprived communities. His work asks why some practices consistently struggle to retain GPs while others don't, how recent workforce policy reforms have affected GP supply and retention, and how the vast amount of data already being collected could help identify truly actionable levers. The point isn't to describe the workforce crisis. It's to find what can be changed.
