When someone is struggling, they're not thinking about which service to choose. They're asking what do I do next? Should I wait? Should I call? Should I go to ED? That's what a virtual front door is really about. People shouldn't need to understand the mental health system to access support. The front door does that for them. Whether someone calls a helpline or uses a symptom checker, what matters is that they feel guided to a safe next step. Today Angelica Scott, Head of Design and Catherine Goodwin, Mental Health Clinical Lead presented at the International Mental Health Conference on our design-led research for a virtual mental health front door. What came through loud and clear in our co-design work with people with lived and living experience was that it's not the technology that makes the difference. It's the feeling of being guided. Of not having to figure it out on your own.
