By placing tumor tissue directly alongside healthy tissue from the same patient, researchers could see exactly which proteins go haywire as cancer develops. The atlas has already flagged existing approved drugs that could be repurposed for new cancer types, potentially cutting years off the drug development process. It also helps explain why some drugs cause unexpected side effects in certain organs like the liver, which could make future treatments safer.
