A simple protective film called Mepitel Film can help prevent this damage, but does it cause any long-term problems? A new study following 376 patients for up to two years confirms the answer is no. Patients who used the protective film during radiation had no additional long-term skin issues compared to standard care. The study also found that some skin changes like darkening and itching can persist for months to years after treatment, regardless of which skin care method was used. This gives doctors and patients confidence that the protective film is a safe and effective option during radiation treatment.
