At MarketHub Europe, we heard from James Bilefield, Chair of the Board at HBX Group, in a conversation that reflected on the realities shaping the travel industry today, and the role HBX Group can play within it. James shared what continues to stand out in his early months in the role: the strength of the travel industry itself, the power of the ecosystem, and the people behind it. Despite ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainty, travel demand remains resilient. It doesn’t stop, it shifts - across destinations, markets and traveller behaviours. For businesses, that creates both challenge and opportunity, requiring agility not just in operations, but in mindset. That adaptability is where the broader ecosystem becomes critical. The connections between partners, suppliers and distributors are what enable the industry to respond in real time, creating value that goes beyond individual businesses. From a technology perspective, the conversation naturally turned to AI. There are clear opportunities to drive efficiency, improve decision-making and support teams with better tools. But the emphasis remains on balance - using technology to enhance human expertise, not replace it. Because in a relationship-driven industry, trust, experience and long-term partnerships still underpin success. Looking ahead, the ambition for HBX Group remains focused on one of the industry’s most important challenges: simplifying complexity. Through a combination of technology, data and human insight, the goal is to make the travel ecosystem easier to navigate for partners and for travellers - while continuing to unlock growth across the network. When asked to sum up the moment in one word, James’ answer was simple: 'excited!'
