Real-world experience is one of the most valuable parts of a business education. At the Haskayne School of Business, students are working directly with organizations through a student consulting program where they apply classroom knowledge to real business challenges while building the skills employers value most. One company being considered for the program's fall cohort is Ice Hero. This Albertan startup has developed a portable device to thaw frozen water and sewer lines, helping address a common challenge for rural property owners. As the company looks to grow, Haskayne students may have the opportunity to contribute fresh ideas and recommendations around strategy, marketing and business development. "These projects are not hypothetical classroom exercises where all the information is already packaged neatly," says Terri Moleski, a faculty liaison co-ordinator at Haskayne. “Students have to ask better questions, work with imperfect information, understand partner needs and develop recommendations that are useful in a real organizational context."
