“On the scale of inventing fire, electricity and the Internet.” That is how Mohammad Keyhani, associate professor of entrepreneurship and innovation at the Haskayne School of Business, described generative AI at AI Futures, a three‑day conference recently hosted by the University of Regina. The event brought together researchers, educators and industry leaders to ask a shared question: how do universities respond when intelligence is no longer scarce? Keyhani spoke to the speed and scale of change he is seeing through his research on organizations, markets and innovation. Piers Steel, Haskayne professor of organizational behaviour and human resources, approached the topic from a more human angle. Drawing on his research that spans meta-analysis and AI‑accelerated methods, he spoke about how curiosity and intention influence whether AI deepens understanding or simply speeds up surface‑level work.
