Harris Manchester Senior Research Fellow Dr Finn Moore Gerety has collaborated on a major new immersive listening experience with Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós. Ára, which opened at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities on 26 June, combines live recordings from Sigur Rós’ orchestral world tour with lighting and scents to create a multisensory 80-minute experience. Dr Gerety is a historian of Asian religion and a global expert on mantras at the Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, University of Oxford. He used his expertise to help the band explore how sacred utterances can be used to transform reality – and how this might be applied to music.
