Only Sunday Robotics made me want a home robot without any concerns. Here is why: 1) The first thing that struck me was their unique “skill capture glove”. Most robotics companies train their robots in perfectly controlled lab settings. Sunday didn’t do that. They built a glove that real people wear while doing everyday chores, so the robot learns from actual homes instead of staged simulations. Real kitchens. Real laundry piles. Real mess. That is why the robot’s movements feel so natural instead of mechanical. 2) The second thing is how friendly the robot looks. We are used to robots that feel cold or intimidating, the kind you expect in a sci-fi movie. Sunday went in the opposite direction. Memo looks gentle. It moves softly. It feels like something you would welcome into your home instead of something you’d be nervous around. The design makes the whole experience comforting rather than scary. 3) And lastly there is the team. Tony Zhao and Cheng Chi didn’t come from the “build a flashy robot” mindset. They spent years studying real human behavior and thinking deeply about what a robot should feel like in a home. Their focus on safety, reliability and emotional design comes through in every detail of the product.
