International Trade Union Officer at IGBCE - German Mining, Chemical and Energy Union

What a week Down Under! 🇦🇺 Having just finished our very own congress two weeks ago we headed off to Australia for an intense week with 1000 colleagues from all over the globe. Well, this was by far the longest Journey since I joined international Union work.😄 IndustriALL Global Union as the federation of more than 50 million industrial workers from over 140 countries had selected Sydney, Australia for this amazing 4th ordinary congress with the slogan “Organizing for a just future!🚩 The week started off with Elections of the new Leadership and I want to congratulate IG Metall president Christiane Benner on her election as president of the federation. Together with the leadership Team of General Secretary Atle Høie, my Friend Kemal Özkan and the other Deputy General Secretaries Kan Matsuzaki and Christine Olivier the voice of #unity, #strength and #solidarity will be loud.📢 Our Industriegewerkschaft IGBCE Delegation was also very much present during congress with many interventions of the workers reality on site in the companies and strategic demands for a just future. Clear. Strong. In Solidarity!🤝😉 When talking about a just future we also have to take into account young workers. And during my speech to the congress on international youth work I made very clear what my union stands for: involvement of young people and to bring them into positions where they can make a real difference. I am happy about the establishment of a global #youth committee that sends a clear signal as well❗️ Over two years of intense preparations finally led to the action plan we voted on this week. ➡️ We call for Strong worker’s rights everywhere in the world with special regards to the strengthening of women’s rights.💪🏻 ➡️ We will build up trade union power through organizing strategies🚀 ➡️ We will make global capital accountable with our union networks in global multinationals🏭 ➡️ We will fight for a just transition to leave no one behind during times of transformation.🏗️ Beside this, resolutions on peace and international #Trade policy were adopted. It’s important in times of erratic tariff policies and escalating wars to take a stand as a global movement. I therefore was so glad about the intense talks we’ve held with our brothers and sisters from #Israel 🇮🇱and #Ukraine 🇺🇦in Sydney. How workers rights are affected in the global #supplychain was once more highlighted by several unions from the textile and garment sector. I met with colleagues from #Myanmar, #Cambodia, #Vietnam and #Indonesia to listen their stories. One thing is clear: We we will not stop to showcase how german Multinational brands deal with their responsibilities in the global south!⛔️ Alexander Bercht Michael Vassiliadis Hasan Allak Britta Sorge Constanze Clodius
