🌿 From concept to implementation: "#Mittendrin" – #Vertical #Farming as an Integral Part of #Urban #Architecture I am pleased to share the project video of our collaborative research project Mittendrin – #Energieoptimierte #vertikale #Landwirtschaft als integraler Bestandteil der #urbanen #Architektur, together with the publication of our final project report, which is now openly available (in German). The project explored how energy-optimised vertical farming systems can be integrated directly into existing and future buildings, combining architecture, engineering, biology and urban sustainability to create productive, resource-efficient building envelopes. Based on the innovative OrbiLoop®/OrbiPlant® technology, the consortium developed and evaluated concepts for façade and rooftop integration of vertical farming systems, addressing technical, ecological and architectural challenges. As Principal Investigator and coordinator of the consortium, it was a privilege to lead this interdisciplinary collaboration through BioMat. Sustainable Design & Building Technology Services , bringing together expertise from #architecture, #plant sciences, #engineering and #industrial implementation. A heartfelt thank you to my co-authors of the published report: Asmaa Hassan , Paulina Grabowska and to all consortium partners for the inspiring collaboration: Fraunhofer-Institut für Molekularbiologie und Angewandte Oekologie IME Marc Stift EUtech Scientific Engineering GmbH Maschinen- und Metallbau Vonhoegen GmbH & Co. KG Stadt Aachen Many thanks as well to the Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung (BLE) and the Federal Ministry for supporting this research initiative, and to the INUGA - Innovationsnetzwerk Urbaner Gartenbau – team for creating an outstanding platform for #knowledge #exchange, dissemination and #networking. Special thanks to Johannes Gorges, Dr. Marianne Altmann, and the entire INUGA team for their continuous support in connecting research, #innovation and #implementation. The project was funded through the #Innovation #Programme of the Federal Ministry and coordinated under FKZ: 2818912A20 (Project "#Mittendrin"), running from May 2022 to June 2025. 🎥 I hope you enjoy the project video. 📄 The final report (German) is now publicly available for anyone interested in the research and project outcomes: Mittendrin – Final Report (Teilprojekt A): https://lnkd.in/eanvt-KP #BioMat #Mittendrin #VerticalFarming #UrbanAgriculture #GreenInfrastructure #BioBasedArchitecture #SustainableArchitecture #NatureBasedSolutions #BuildingIntegratedAgriculture #CircularCities #UrbanInnovation #Architecture #Research #Innovation #BLE #BMLEH #INUGA #UniversityofStuttgart #Fraunhofer #EUtech #StadtAachen
