Want to become a Guide Dog Trainer or Guide Dog Mobility Specialist? First, you have to train through Academy! Academy trains people to become these two roles, and you don't need to have previous dog training experience to apply. We look for transferable skills, people skills and enthusiasm. It takes roughly 2.5 years to qualify as a Guide Dog Trainer, and 3 years to qualify as a Guide Dog Mobility Specialist. Both roles require you to have a UK drivers license and to be able to walk between 8 - 10 miles per day. Over the top of them speaking, various clips of Emily and Melanie training with dogs are shown. Emily works with black Labrador Pops, and Melanie works with yellow Labrador Bumble. Pops enters the harness as Bumble walks off a platform to locate a chair. Later, Bumble settles under Melanie's chair, and Pops waits patiently for some kibble from a bucket. Bumble then enters her harness and demonstrates a chin rest so that Melanie can check her over.]
