This Desertification and Drought Day: Every Degree of Efficiency Counts   On 17 June, the world observes the 2026 World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought under the theme “Rangelands: Recognize. Respect. Restore.” Rangelands cover more than half of the Earth’s land surface—yet up to half are already degraded or at risk. Climate change and land degradation are accelerating, threatening food security, water cycles, biodiversity, and the livelihoods of some two billion people who depend on these landscapes.
