When Aligned Data Centers came to Portland General Electric in 2024 wanting to expand its operations in Hillsboro, Oregon, PGE followed GridCARE's recommendation: use existing grid infrastructure paired with a 31 MW battery, and skip the years-long transmission upgrades that would otherwise be required. As PGE's Manager of Data Center Relations Isaac Barrow put it in a recent MIT Technology Review article, "Data centers wanted 'speed to power,' but transmission buildout is a long process that's very costly." GridCARE was proud to step in with solutions — unlocking over 400 MW of near-term capacity on PGE’s grid. This is what power acceleration looks like in practice: using flexibility and existing infrastructure to create a faster, more reliable path to serving new load.
