"Time well spent. What an admirable goal. Perhaps the overriding goal of all goals. How often do we measure this? Do we even know how? Do the systems we’re in push us from considering this? I wonder why." Seth Godin I’m often asked: What is the most important skill for advancing your career, maximizing your position, and succeeding in sales? My answer has been the same for years: Time Management — or, as my friend and colleague Craig Christensen more accurately calls it, "Time Investment". We can do anything. We just can’t do everything — and we shouldn’t try to. We live in a highly reactive world. Pings, dings, rings, notifications, meetings, and interruptions dominate our days. Structured time management systems have taken a backseat to constant responsiveness. If you want to feel fulfilled at the end of your day, accomplish the things that truly move the needle, and become exceptional at what you do, you must be intentional about how you prioritize and invest your time. Get educated on a time management system that works for you — and commit to using it daily. Commitment becomes discipline. Discipline becomes habit. Habit becomes identity. Over time, you’ll build a predictable rhythm focused on what matters most. Personally, I use a version of FranklinCovey that I learned more than 20 years ago. I’m also a big fan of Atomic Habits by James Clear. The system matters less than the consistency. If you want to take control of your career, start by taking control of your time. Hurry, the clock is ticking! Make it a great day!
