Industrial meat giants like JBS claim to "feed the world." The reality appears to be very different. The growth of JBS's meat empire has repeatedly been linked to rainforests burned to the ground, wildlife habitats lost, allegations of terrible conditions for workers, stolen indigenous lands, bribery, corruption, and a total lack of transparency. Now, they are taking this toxic business model global with a $6 billion expansion, half of which is earmarked for six new meat processing plants in Nigeria. Some 1.2 million hectares of land has been promised to the project.  But they have failed to publish significant environmental assessments, they are operating in the shadows and requests for transparency from Nigerian civil society have been ignored. We cannot let them export their destructive business-as-usual model to a new frontier.
