#TrailGuides goes distorted for #64 in a return to Austria with Founder of BRANDxCULTURE RIEBENBAUER, Christoph Riebenbauer. Chris and I had the benefit of working together remotely on Red Bull Records for a few years, and then directly in person when I made the move to HQ in Salzburg. Chris’ history dates back as a guitarist in punk and hardcore scene with the band Red Lights Flash in the 90s and 00s, playing over 700 shows across Europe and releasing 4 full length records (signed to Householdname in the UK and Antiflag’s A-F Records in the US). In 2010, as life on the road wore down his sanity, Chris started hosting a Radio show on Austria’s national indie/alternative station, FM4, and took up helping brands with their music efforts. Red Bull had approached Chris to help with booking music for their new Formula 1 racetrack around race weekends, based in Central Austria - a relationship which led to Chris consulting on other Red Bull music projects. As most consultants know, once the money gets too good with one client - the conversation always evolves about coming in house (controlled fees) and in 2015, he entered full time to be a conduit to integrating the Red Bull Records efforts into the Global marketing business. He’d evolve over the next few years to Head up Global Music Programs. Following significant changes in the organization in mid 2020 (peak pandemic), and seeking more connection with his growing family and a desire to be his own boss again, Chris returned to consulting life at the start of 2021, helping brands and organizations to strengthen their identity through creative marketing solutions. Today, he’s scaling the business up alongside lots of public speaking and will begin lecturing at Danube University in the new year. On this guide, and to no surprise for anyone that knows Chris and my shared history, there are a LOT of heavy guitars as we pogo’d our way up from Burggrabenklamm though the Steinmännchen and up for beers at the Buchberghütte and views of Mondsee.
