GAYO Botswana partnered with the FNB Botswana Golden Grand Prix 2026 edition, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, and Golden Door Sports Agency for an Earth Day tree planting ceremony at the National Stadium under the theme "Play for the Planet – Every Race, One Tree." Kabo Nginya, Communications Officer, GAYO Botswana: "Botswana is feeling the heat of climate change – rising temperatures, unpredictable rains, land degradation, and pressure on our biodiversity. These are not distant problems. They affect our food, our water, and our future. But young people are not waiting. Today, we add a new player to the team: sports. Sports bring energy, discipline, teamwork, and hope. Imagine if every athlete became a climate champion. Every finish line crossed by planting a tree. That is the vision we are launching today." Glody Dube, CEO of Golden Door Sports Agency: Spoke on integrating sustainability into sports and reaffirmed continued commitment to environmental stewardship. Professor Patricia Kefilwe Mogomotsi, Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Environment Sector: Welcomed collaborations between sports and environmental sectors. The Mosilabele (Karee tree / Rhus lancea) was planted by Professor Mogomotsi and BNSC CEO Mr. Mabua Mabua.
