GAYO Botswana Commemorates Desertification and Drought Day 2026 On 17th June 2026, GAYO Botswana joined the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Tonota District, and other stakeholders at Foley Village to commemorate Desertification and Drought Day under the theme "Rangelands: Recognise. Respect. Restore." Rangelands are essential ecosystems that support biodiversity, food security, and climate resilience. In Botswana, they sustain livestock production and rural livelihoods. However, land degradation and desertification continue to pose significant threats. The 2026 theme calls for recognition of the value of rangelands, respect for their ecological importance, and restoration of degraded landscapes. Healthy rangelands enhance ecosystem services, build climate resilience, and support sustainable development. GAYO Botswana reaffirms its commitment to youth-led climate action and sustainable land management. We encourage all stakeholders to strengthen efforts towards protecting and restoring our rangelands for present and future generations. #DesertificationAndDroughtDay #Rangelands
