The Digital Services Act has delivered one of its largest enforcement actions yet. The European Commission fined AliExpress €550 million after concluding the platform failed to properly assess and reduce the systemic risks posed by illegal, unsafe, and counterfeit products. Beyond the size of the penalty, the decision also offers a shows that regulators now expect platforms to prove their risk management works in practice, and not simply claim that it does.
