In the backrooms of the Federal Parliament last year, the Labor Party and the Coalition did a dirty deal to give themselves enormous financial advantage over minor parties and people running as Independents at elections. The new law slams the door in the face of regular people who want to run for their local communities and smaller parties who are not given a seat at the big boys' table in an election. And it’s not just about those running in a election. This law makes it harder for you and me to choose a candidate that we feel best represents us. It’s an impossible task if other candidates are being drowned out by a barrage of election materials paid out of the deep coffers of the major parties. This attack on our democracy and fair elections passed Parliament without proper or genuine consultation, nor any meaningful public discussion with our communities, in a backroom deal. We won't stand for this. That's why we're supporting Former Independent Zoe Daniel GAICD and former Senator Rex Patrick who have filed a constitutional challenge to this law in the High Court of Australia.
