Sometimes the Royal Netherlands Navy in Den Helder (Holland) is given the opportunity to acquire special objects. The museum recently purchased two paintings by the Dutch artist Hendrik Alexander Sangster (1825-1901). These are two portraits of Vice Admiral Engelbert George van der Plaat (1792-1874) and his wife. On June 1, 1853, Van der Plaat was promoted to vice admiral and that is why he has himself and his wife captured on canvas in all glory. To celebrate the memorable fact of his new rank. This morning I visited the restoration studio of Kathrin Kirsch in Amsterdam. Both portraits have been beautifully restored. Tribute for her good and solid work! Both paintings have gained value and significance thanks to their restoration. The two accompanying frames have also been restored. Thanks to the skilled work of the restoration studio Sainthill in Haarlem under the inspiring leadership of Guy Sainthill, both frames are again in optimal condition. With many thanks to the Friends of the Royal Netherlands Navy Museum Foundation! Thanks also to Crown Fine Art for their professional transportations!
