Competitiveness, values and security. The core themes for Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union have just been announced. Ireland will take up the Presidency in three weeks' time. Micheál Martin said: “In three weeks’ time, on 1 July, Ireland will begin its eighth Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Today, we have set out an ambitious agenda for our Presidency, focused on the core themes of competitiveness, values and security.
