The rotary anvil must have a suitable pattern to work with the pattern of the fastener material and to optionally weld the outer edges of the fastener to the backing material. Variables such as the basis weights of the fastening tape and backing material, composition of the backing material and production speeds all must be considered as part of creating an optimum weld.
