As a leading centre in the management and separation of conjoined twins, we're delighted that #GOSH consultants were able to contribute to the successful separation of Mercy and Goodness at SEHA Sheikh Khalifa Medical City City, part of PureHealth, in Abu Dhabi. The separation involved more than 40 hours of surgery and over 60 healthcare professionals. Among them was a multidisciplinary team of 12 from GOSH, including surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre staff. The team used advanced imaging, augmented and mixed reality simulations, 3D printing and AI-supported planning to prepare for this highly complex procedure. The girls' skulls were then reconstructed using custom 3D-printed titanium grafts. Professor Owase Jeelani, consultant paediatric neurosurgeon at #GOSH, who also founded the charity Gemini Untwined, said: "This case was a rare and remarkable triumph, a testament to what is possible when courage, compassion and cutting-edge technology come together. The resilience of Mercy and Goodness, the strength of their family, and the extraordinary partnership between international experts and the team in the UAE made the seemingly impossible achievable." After their final operation, Mercy and Goodness were able to see each other face to face for the first time, a truly special moment for them and their family. They are now continuing their recovery before returning home to #Nigeria. 💚 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/dkZZzbjm #GOSHInternational #PioneeringSurgery #Neurosurgery
